We know that the task of teaching how to read with proficiency competes, especially, to school, without, however, dispense the support and participation of the family. Thus this research intended to verify how the school contributes to the formation of readers, analyzing how the school staff acts in this process and what they think about the work with reading. It was a qualitative research, outlining the study of case. The subjects were: the management team, four teachers, three of them working in the classroom and a reassigned one, responsible for the library. For the theoretical foundation, we have used the concepts of reading as production of meaning and concrete social function. Having the data, we proceeded the analysis which revealed the need of reflection, on the part of school staff in relation to their practice.
