Research progress of Traditional Chinese Medicine compound against respiratory viral diseases
Abstract
In recent years, according to incomplete statistics, acute respiratory infections caused by viruses account for approximately 80% of all respiratory diseases triggered by pathogenic microorganisms, making these the diseases with the highest incidence rates worldwide. Respiratory viruses, such as the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (SARS-CoV), SARS-CoV-2, influenza A virus and respiratory syncytial virus, pose a threat to public health, yet no specific drugs have been developed to combat these viruses effectively. Due to its synergistic multi-component and multi-target actions, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has unique advantages in the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of respiratory viral diseases. In recent years, many clinicians and researchers have conducted extensive studies and explorations into the use of TCM for treating respiratory viral diseases, leading to a clearer understanding of its clinical efficacy and therapeutic mechanisms. This article reviews the clinical efficacy and mechanisms of action of TCM in treating respiratory viral diseases, providing strong evidence for its enhanced treatment capabilities and promoting the development and potential application of TCM in the field of respiratory viral diseases.
