Les missionnaires et la botanique : l’exemple du père Urbain Faurie en Extrême-Orient
Abstract
In the course of their evangelization travels, Western missionaries contributed to the advancement of botany by introducing to the wider world scores of hitherto unknown plant species. The case of Father Faurie of the Missions étrangères de Paris demonstrates that a religious calling was not at all incompatible with serious scientific pursuits.
