À propos du groupe statuaire impérial du théâtre de Bulla Regia. L’apport de la documentation épigraphique à l’analyse iconographique

Abstract

The statues and the inscriptions carved on statue bases have long been studied separately as a result of certain inter-disciplinary boundaries. Since the 1980’s, many scholars have tried to bring the two elements together. By studying the imperial statuary group from the theater of Bulla Regia in Africa Proconsularis, I would like to demonstrate how a cross analysis of imperial dedications and their statues found in the area can solve some of the problems of identification or dating and promote a better understanding of an imperial discourse formulated in images.
