TUFANBEYLİ HAVZASI ve YAKIN ÇEVRESİNİN (ADANA) JEOMORFOLOJİSİ
Abstract
Our research area is located in the Mediterranneaen Region, around the city of Adana. Tufanbeyli Basin and its surrounding are also situated in the Middle Taurus Mountains. This area has complex structure and a variety of landforms. It is also known to be a very young tectonical area. Fluvial erosion is affected, limestones are dissolved and glacial features are covered in the area.Investigated area covers 1200 km2 and the geomorphologic units are mountanious areas, plateaus, basin floors(valleys, passes, terraces, allivual fans), karstic and glacial landforms. In this area, it is observable that the summit erosional surfaces are at 2400-2800 meters, high plateaus are at 1950-2200 meters and low plateaus are at 1700-1850 metres. Tufanbeyli basin has been shaped in Alp Orogeny especially during the Middle to Early - Late Miocene (Mainly Langhian – Tortonion). It took a shape with tectonic high land on glaciation. Göksu River has passed from the north to the south of Tufanbeyli Basin and left a large valley bottom. Göksu fault covered Tufanbeyli Basin average of in first movements. The basin’s original hollow shape subsidenced on last of Miocene. It riped with tectonical movements and an eartenwore pot has become visible. After this place’s turning into a lake, it deposited its materials in Pliosen and Quaternary. The Basin’s floor is 1420-1520 meters high. Different terraces happened with climatic factor in Quaternary period and during the last period of Pleistocene, glacial features developed at the high lands
