In 1894, the Museum of Classical Archeology of the Academy of Sciences was liquidated, and all its collections were transferred to the Hermitage. Documents revealed in the Russian State Historical Archives indicate that the Cabinet of Fine Arts of the Imperial Moscow University also fought for the collection, on the basis of which the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts grew in the following decades. A.S. Pushkin. The correspondence about the fate of the museum was attended by prof. I. V. Tsvetaev, N. M. Anichkov, Count P. A. Kapnist, Grand Duke Konstantin Konstantinovich, Academician V. V. Latyshev, S. Yu. Witte, Baron V. B. Frederiks, Count I. D. Delyanov. The appendix to the article contains letters from I.V. Tsvetaeva to N.M. Anichkov.
