Professional improvement’s characterization in the Public Health National School, Cuba
Abstract
Foundation: professional improvement is essential for strengthening, maintaining and updating professional skills; as a study modality, it must be added to current demands and have relevance in educational institutions.Objective: to characterize the process of professional improvement at the National School of Public Health to fulfill its aim.Methods: cross-sectional descriptive study on professional improvement at the Public Health National School, between 2013 and 2022. The research included all programs registered in the institution's Professional Improvement Database in the analyzed period. The variables: organizational forms, study modality and themes broached by the registered programs were examined.Results: professional improvement in the institution has varied in terms of the number of programs developed, with a marked decrease from 2018 onwards, but the trend since 2022 indicates that it is increasing. The topics broached in the programs correspond to the Minsap work objectives and the National Health System’s prioritized programs.Conclusions: the Public Health National School has contributed to the professionals’ improvement in different topics. Although it has remained active, it still has a lot to perfect and challenges to take on to satisfactorily meet the system’s demands and its professional’s network, both in addressing content and in the process methodological efficiency.
