Evaluation of the use of ketorolac vs. diclofenac sodium in the preventive analgesia of limb surgery
Abstract
Background: postoperative pain appears with greater frequency and intensity after the surgical interventions of large joints. Objective: to compare the analgesic effects of ketorolac and diclofenac sodium in the treatment of postoperative pain with the use of the preventive analgesia technique, in patients undergoing elective surgery of limb lesions, treated at the "Manuel Ascunce Domenech" General Teaching Hospital of Camagüey, from 2015 to 2018.Methods: a non-experimental cohort study was carried out on a sample of 60 patients with limb surgical treatment, at the aforementioned institution and during the period stated in the objective. Two groups of 30 patients were created, depending on the use of ketorolac or diclofenac sodium for analgesic. The following variables were assessed: age, sex, physical status, blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, pain relief and patient satisfaction. Results: there was a predominance of young male patients in both groups. The physical status of most of the patients was ASA 1 and ASA 2, according to the classification of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA). In both groups there was an adequate control of the blood pressure, the heart rate and the oxygen saturation. Postoperative pain control and patient satisfaction were better in the group of patients treated with ketorolac. Conclusions: there were better results in pain control and patient satisfaction when using ketorolac. Pain treatment should be preventive, with multimodal and prescribed analgesic, not at the patient's request.
