Numerous investigations have examined the collecting of antiquities in Verona. This contribution provides a concise overview of this phenomenon with specific reference to the period preceding the beginning of the 17th century. By analyzing the research conducted by Lanfranco Franzoni starting from the 1960s, as well as more recent publications which also include archival, art historical and epigraphical studies, it offers new insights regarding the early use of the octagonal shape of the studio and the existence of collections of antiquities in gardens which were not inferior to the Giusti Garden in both size and importance.
