Located in Campos Gerais of Parana, southern Brasil, the Parque Estadual de Vila Velha (PEVV) is a conservation unit of great importance for its biotic and abiotic characteristics, recognized mainly by its geological formations of Arenitos and Furnas. This natural area presents a public use zone that has undergone different management changes, and currently there is a disconnection between the conservation of the natural heritage and the social responsibility of the tourist activity. An analysis of the public use management model in PEVV was made using the information provided by bibliographical review, documentary and interviews, aiming at establishing corrective guidelines that were academically supported. It is suggested that the hybrid management model be established, involving the local community and private companies, and placing the pub‑ lic administration as the control entity, with the purpose of guaranteeing sustainability, generating local socio‑ economic development and fostering the geoconservation of this natural area with high geotourism potential.
