SURFACE HYDROGRAPHY IN THE NORTHERN GULF OF CALIFORNIA TAKEN BY A THERMOSALINOMETER
Abstract
Through direct measurements of temperature, salinity and density obtained by a thermosalinometer in the northern Gulf of California, superficial scalar fields were obtained for these variables in the periods of January, March, June 1995 and March 1996. Fields obtained with existing taken with CTD for the same regions and periods are compared, where an obvious similarity is observed. The fields where analyzed and the presence of an intense interanual anomaly is noted during the period from January to March 1995 manifested with the increase in average temperature in the region, the formation in the Upper Gulf an haline front, as well as a density front in the same area.
