The article answers the question of how the chances of pupils getting good and very good grades in Polish and maths lessons over two years in their fourth and fifth year of learning change depending on family socioeconomic status (SES). The results reveal that the chances differed by the family socioeconomic status and were not levelled up over two years of learning. Children with a low SES were disadvantaged, which may have a negative impact on the development of a sense of competence underpinning the developmental task attributed to this life stage.
