The material condition of Serbs in Srem in the period from the 18th century until the annexation of Croats and Slovenes to the Kingdom of Serbs in our country has not been much researched and discussed. In the time scope of this work, Srem was an integral part of first the Habsburg, then the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. As economic circumstances are closely related to the economic policy of the state, this paper seeks to identify and explain the key events that influenced monetary policy, money in circulation, as well as government debts that burdened every inhabitant of the Monarchy. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to deepen the knowledge of economic circumstances that were commonplace of the Serbian Diaspora in Srem from the middle of the 18th century until the accession to the Kingdom of Serbs, Croatsand Slovenes, in order to understand known historical events from an economic perspective.
