The Effect of Housing Environmental Factors on Students' Academic Achievement
Abstract
The present study aimed at investigating the effect of several housing environmental factors on students' achievement and to identify students' perceptions of the most significant housing and environmental factors that influence their achievement. To achieve these goals. a sample of 239 university students was chosen, and an instrument was developed to collect information about students' housing and environmental factors and other demographical variables. Results revealed that the availability of a private bedroom, private study room. and home library were significant housing and environmental factors that affected students' achievement. Also, results revealed that the availability of television has a negative effect on achievement for students living in dormitories only. Furthermore. students believed that the availability of a private study room, a private bedroom, a home library good lighting, a computer. and a home garden were the factors most influencing their achievement. in that order.
