Sociologie de la star et plaisir cinématographiqueEnquête sur les films de Sarah Bernhardt
Abstract
The article seeks to rethink and advance star studies in France, by focusing on the emergence of a movie star system in the 1910s and the reception of the first Sarah Bernhardt films in the USA. An examination of contemporary critical discourse from France and the United States on Sarah Bernhardt enables a sociological analysis of the star’s aesthetic impact. We also make reference to the cinematic expertise of ordinary film-goers.
