Background: Accumulated qualitative research concerning patients’ experiences with Norwegian Psychomotor physiotherapy (NPMP) implies a connection between body awareness and more secure identity. Theory of development and communication can illuminate these findings. Method and material: Qualitative analysis, data is developed from a video recording of a treatment session, and video review session as a basis for an interview with the physiotherapist. Findings: Characteristics in interaction, understanding of the body and potentials in NPMP provide opportunities for support of development in the relational self. The physiotherapists individual tailoring of therapy is crucial for this to occur. Conclusion: This study shows opportunities for promoting clinically important changes in how patients experience and express themselves, through use of individually tailored NPMP.
