EFFECTS OF ACTIVE VIDEO ACCOMPANIED EXERCISES ON EXERCISE CAPACITY, BALANCE AND COGNITIVE FUNCTION IN PATIENTS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS

Aim: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of active video accompanied exercises on exercise capacity, cognitive function, physical activity, muscle endurance, balance, depression and biochemical measurements in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). Methods: Eighteen patients with type 2 DM were enrolled the study. Patients performed active video accompanied exercises 3 days/6 weeks with a physiotherapist. 6-min. walking test (6-MWT), Standardized Mini–Mental Test, International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), Beck Depression Inventory, sit-up and dynamic back extension tests, Flamingo balance test, glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and blood lipid level were evaluated before and after the exercise program. Results: 6-MWT distance (p0.05). Conclusions: Active video accompanied exercises is an effective, applicable, and safe exercise program in type 2 DM patients which improves exercise capacity, muscle endurance, balance, physical activity and cognitive function, decreases depression severity and regulates total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol.
