Youth in modern labor market: problems of placement and employment

Background. The relevance of the study of modern youth placement and em-ployment is due to need increasing its competitiveness in the labor market. On the one hand, there is a desire of youth to find their niche in the labor market, on the other hand, there are a number of objective and subjective factors that impede successful placement, as a result of which there are processes of growth of youth unemployment. The purpose of the study is to analyze the problems of youth in modern labor market. Materials and methods. The research goal implementation was achieved on the basis of studying the data of state statistics on dynamics of population, employment, unemployment, including younger generation; secondary analysis of data from all-Russian and international studies on prob-lems of youth placement and employment. The research methodology is based on systema-tic approach. Results. The article examines youth role in modern labor market, peculiarities of the pandemic impact on youth position in the labor market. The main problems faced by youth in field of employment as a result of economic consequences of the pandemic in the Russian Federation are considered on the basis of data from domestic and foreign statis-tics, dynamics of employment and unemployment of Russians and youth are analyzed. Conclusions. Analysis of statistical data shows a decrease in population dynamics, inclu-ding the number of youth is steadily declining, which is a serious problem. In addition, pandemic period had a significant impact on rise in unemployment. Youth, already in an unstable position in the labor market, were greatly affected by this process. The materials indicate the presence of problems in youth employment, including a lack of work experi-ence, inadequacy of professional training to rapidly changing labor market conditions, em-ployers’ requirements, lack of work experience, as well as expectations of young profes-sionals in relation to work. Taking into account the positive foreign experience of a number of European countries, it is necessary to pay more attention to development of Russian pro-grams for youth employment, systematic approach to this problem.
