Comparing the quality of life in children with cancer in Tabriz Children Medical and Training Center reported by themselves and their parents, 2013
Abstract
Background and aims: Approximately 75% of children diagnosed with cancer achieve disease-free survival using current treatments. These sophisticated and aggressive treatments are capable of affecting children’s quality of life. The recent developments in standardised measures of qulality of life enables us to look more directly at the impact of diagnosis on parents and children's quality of life. The aim of this study is to describe quality of life for children reported by children and their parents . Method: In this descreptive comparative study,a total of 150 eligible families, participated in this study. Samples were taken using convinience sampling method from patients who admitted at Tabriz children medical and training center and their families. Children and parents completed Kid-KINDL questionnaires about child’s quality of life and then different aspect of life quality in these children were compared. Results: the quality of life reported by child and parents was greater than average in psichological,social and familial aspect.(p<0.05). parents generally reported a lower quality of life for their children with cancer (p<0.05). Conclusion: Because of deliniating the current situation in the field of life quality of children suffering from cancer ,this stydy is able to help the nurses and educational programmer and also nursing managers to reach a suitable sample for presenting the caregiving services match with familie's needs and condition.
