ZAKLADANIE SPIN- OFF FIRIEM V UNIVERZITNOM PROSTREDÍ

Abstract

The paper points out the complexity in the definition of the term spin-off company in a university environment. Based on the analysis of published definitions of spin-off companies at universities in Slovakia and abroad, it is possible to name common aspects of these definitions, which are the university's ownership share in the spin-off company, involvement of originators in the establishment and management of spin-offs and feedback from spin-offs companies to the university. These aspects are also key to the decision-making process for setting up a spin-off company and preparing the related necessary documents. It is necessary for universities to define in their internal regulations the basic documents necessary for the decision to establish a spin-off company, to name the persons responsible in the process of document preparation and the approval process itself resulting from binding legal regulations. The basic basis of documents should be also determined in connection with other related internal regulations of the university and the very focus of its science and research.
