La construcción social de las jerarquías de género / The social construction of the hierarchies of gender
Abstract
RESUMEN: El prestigio de los modelos masculinos de conducta se articuló sobre su poder real, y se afirmó mediante conceptualizaciones positivas de lo masculino y denigración semántica de lo femenino, pero también mediante elaboraciones lingüísticas, religiosas, legales e incluso científicas, que limitaban las posibilidades de acceso de las mujeres a posiciones desde las cuales pudieran cuestionar estos significados. La perdurabilidad de los modelos de exclusión se ha apoyado en gran medida en su presunta inevitabilidad biológica, partiendo de una esencialización de las diferencias sexuales. Las modernas interpretaciones que priorizan el género sobre el sexo, dan una buena base para desmontar los viejos prejuicios y poner los cimientos para construir nuevas identidades más fluidas y satisfactorias. ABSTRACT: The prestige of male models of conduct are rooted in their real power and were institutionalized through the positive value attributed to all the is masculine and the semantic disdain of all that is feminine. Linguistic preferences as well as religious, legal and even scientific conventions have limited women’s access to positions from where to challenge these norms and meanings. The persistence of these models of exclusion is largely due to the typically modern Western essencialization of sexual difference. Modern interpretations which give priority to gender over sex povide a good basis to take apart old prejudices and built the foundations for new and more equitable identities.
