Plus que des mercenaires ! L’intégration des hommes de guerre grecs au service de la monarchie saïte
Abstract
This work aims to understand the integration of Greeks in the Egyptian army or administration in the context of political situation during Saitic Period. Greeks, as Pedon or Psammetik son of Theokles, played a major role in the building of the new pharaonic monarchy precisely because they were strangers, free from links to Libyan dynasts of the Delta and Nubian families of the Thebaid. Exclusively depending from the king, the perfect loyalty of Greek servants of Saitic pharaohs was expressed by giving to their children the name of the ruling king. In two generations, Greeks became the indispensable auxiliaries of the Saitic power establishing special links between Egypt and Greek world.
