Preparation of coated copper powder and its electromagnetic absorption property

In order to improve the application of copper powder in the field of microwave absorption, nickel coated copper powder and silver coated nickel coated copper composite powder were prepared by electroless plating method using copper powder as raw material. The phase composition and microstructure of composite powder was characterized by X-ray diffractometer, field emission scanning electron microscope. And the electromagnetic adsorption performance was tested by vector grid analyzer. The results show that the sample of nickel-coated copper powder with a thickness of 2.4 mm at 10.74 GHz has a RL min of -21.09 dB and an effective absorption bandwidth of 0.08 GHz. The sample with a thickness of 2.6 mm at 10.78 GHz has a RL min of -25.04 dB and an effective absorption bandwidth of 0.15 GHz. In the band of 8.2 ~12.4 GHz, the RL min at 9.92 GHz is -55.36 dB and the effective absorption bandwidth is 4.2 GHz when the thickness of the sample is 2.6 mm. The thickness of the sample is 2.2~2.6 mm, and the reflection loss value in the whole X-band is less than -10 dB, which is the effective absorption bandwidth. Compared with nickel coated copper powder, silver coated copper coated powder has better microwave absorption performance, wider absorption frequency and wider thickness range.
