Salvatore Costanzo is one of the Italian writers that moved to Spain in the XIX century. He was exiled from the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies for his opposition to the Bourbon government and he chose Madrid as his residence; in few years he became an important cultural and political mediator with the Italian reality and he successfully integrate in the literary life of the time. As cultural ambassador he published lots of works ranged over many topics: economy, literature, arts, history, politics, education and music. This is the context of his comparative analysis of Italian and Spanish literature. His work is a precious contribution for the recovery of the history of the relationship between Italy and Spain in the XIX century.
