The aim of this article is to identify residents’ opinions on various types of youth support centres in the context of their sense of safety. An attempt was made to answer the question to what extent the inhabitants of towns where juvenile reformatories, juvenile sociotherapy centres or emergency shelters are located feel safe and to what extent the type of facility aff ects the level of their sense of threat. The paper also presents the results of own research on the test subjects’ level of knowledge about the type of activities the individual facilities engage in and on the attitude of residents to those under the facilities’ custody.
