1922 BÜYÜK İZMİR YANGINI SONRASI İZMİR CUMHURİYET MEYDANININ OLUŞUMU VE MEKÂNSAL GELİŞİMİNİN İNCELENMESİ

Abstract

Throughout the history, societies have always required urban centers in order to be together and meet their needs. In every urban settlement there are important center points reflecting the lifestyle of the region. Those center points, formed in style of squares, have obtained the power of representation in city memory via social movements and demonstration with changing contents. With respect to the emergence of urban residences, there were determining factors such as social lifestyles, wars, physical residences scale and environmental factors. In this article, the influences which have a greatly important place in the city memory, square formations in Izmir will be studied via the example of Cumhuriyet Square. After the Great Izmir Fire, the regulations of urban planning, spatial formation changing function and the user quality in Cumhuriyet Square will be examined.
