RESTRICTIONS OF BINDING THEORY AND COREFERENTIAL PROCESSING IN TWO STAGES
Abstract
This research investigated the role of Principle B of Binding Theory in the parsing of sentences with the pronoun “he” preceded by an unavailable antecedent convergent or divergent concerning the gender, number and animacy features. An experiment of self-paced reading revealed an immediate action of principle B and a late influence of unavailable antecedents, with a combined action of the mentioned features.
