Teléfonos inteligentes y humanos extendidos. Una mirada crítica
Abstract
In this article, we propose a critical approach towards the role that smartphones play in our ordinary practices. First of all, we analyze the role of these devices in our daily life drawing from contemporary studies on technology and communication. In order to accomplish this, we begin by presenting the way in which smartphones function as extensions of human activity and identify the key elements that make it possible. Second of all, we analyze the impact that these devices bear on our cognitive system, following recent debates on the philosophy of cognitive science, psychology and epistemology. Taking extended cognition as our conceptual background, we focus on the effects that smartphones have on our cognitive abilities. Finally, we call for a conscious and reflexive integration, which does not fall into a technophobic discourse but nevertheless prevents us from an automatic integration.
