The quantification of the mineral resources in the iron-weathering crusts is affected, among other factors, by the great variability in their thickness, which requires the use of very dense drilling nets that are very expensive. This work presents results of the application of the geophysical method of induced electric polarization induced vertical (SEV-PI) in the Cuban ophiolites where iron-cobaltiferous weathering crusts are developed, in order to determine their thicknesses and contribute to the increase of the precision in the calculation of resources. The results show that the method has good resolution power to estimate the thickness of the lateritic crust and to map the irregularities of the laterites-basement contact.
