This study analyzes the new regulation about the electric self-supply set forth by article 9 of the Electric sector Act linking it to the current regulatory regulation which allows its implementation, waiting to the passing of the announced implementing regulation of the subject. It shows the special correlation between this model of electric supply and the use of sources of renewable energies in the framework of the normative set by the European Union. Special attention is given to the controversial economic regime to which self supply is bound, with the payment of the back up toll; and the doctrine opposed to it established by the national regulator of energy and competition. To conclude we show the energy, enviromental and urban implications that have an impact over the electric self supply with reference to some proposals for an integrated regulation in this area that allow the promotion of its introduction and development.
