LAS LENGUAS CRIOLLAS DEL CARIBE: ORÍGENES Y SITUACIÓN SOCIOLINGÜÍSTICA, UNA APROXIMACIÓN THE CREOLE LANGUAGES OF THE CARIBBEAN: AN APPROACH TO THEIR ORIGINS AND SOCIOLINGUISTIC SITUATIONS
Abstract
En este artículo se presenta de manera general una descripción de la situación sociolingüística de las lenguas criollas habladas en la región del Caribe. Para esto, el texto se organiza de la siguiente manera: en primer lugar, se explica qué es una lengua criolla; luego se evidencia cómo dichas lenguas se clasifican en la región caribeña; en tercer lugar, se estudian las diferentes formas de surgimiento de estas lenguas en dicha región; y, finalmente, se muestra la situación sociolingüística de diferentes países del Caribe. Se concluye que el Caribe es una región multilingüe en donde el contacto lingüístico ha generado, de diferentes maneras, diversas lenguas criollas y en donde se presentan diferentes relaciones entre las lenguas que allí coexisten. Así, el texto tiene como fin extender la mirada sobre las lenguas criollas y mejorar la comprensión lingüística que se posee sobre el Caribe.The article presents a general description of the sociolinguistic situation of the Creole languages spoken in the Caribbean. With this objective in mind, the text is organized as follows: first, it explains the concept of Creole Language; second, it discusses how said languages are classified in the Caribbean region; third, it examines the different forms of emergence of these languages in the Caribbean; and, finally, it shows the sociolinguistic situations of various Caribbean countries. The article concludes with the proposal that the Caribbean is a multi-lingual region in which linguistic contact has produced, in very different ways, diverse Creole languages, and in which there are different relations among the languages that co-exist there. Therefore, the text's objective is to expand the view regarding Creole languages and improve the linguistic understanding of the Caribbean.
