In the 1970's the Birmingham Centre for Contemporary Cultural Studies (CCCS) developed a new and influential paradigm for understanding the actions and symbolic creativity of post-Second World War working-class youth subcultures. Although it was a relevant contribution to the comprehension of the relationship between youth, identity formation and consumer culture, the CCCS theoretical frameworks (especially the notion of resistance) needs to be revised in order to take account of recent trends in youth cultural and political practices.
