Ciudades insalubres: una propuesta de medición

Abstract

This article proposes the construction of an Urban UnhealthinessIndex (IDIU in its Spanish acronym) based on the shortcomings of cities rather than their achievements, so that the usual problems of compensatory aggregation implicit in composite indicators can be solved. Thus, standardization techniques adopted from the measurement of poverty as a multidimensional phenomenon are used. To test its performance, a sample of cities around the world has been taken which, in turn, has shown significant robustness and suggests that the indicator is suitable for the prioritisation of public policies related to urban health
