Abstract

The article collects evidence showing that accusations of heresy levelled against the Stephanite anchorites were false – they were accused, among other things, of being antimarian. The presented evidence is excerpted from unpublished manuscripts written in the Ge’ez language of the Stephanite community in the Gunda Gunde monastery in the 15th-16th centuries in Ethiopia.
