The Effect of Motivation and Audio Visual Media-Based CTL Method on News Text Writing Skills

This study aims to describe the effect of the CTL(Contextual et al.) method based on Audiovisual media and Learning Motivation on News Text Writing Skills. The approach used is a quantitative type of experiment—factorial design research design. The population is class VIII students of SMPN 1 Padang, with as many as eight classes with 254 students. The samples were two classes, namely VIII.B with 31 students and VIII.F with 32 students—retrieval with purposive sample technique. The primary data are questionnaires and tests. Primary data sources are students VIII.B, and VIII.F. Data collection techniques are performance tests and questionnaires. The data analysis technique is the prerequisite analysis test for normality and homogeneity tests, while the hypothesis test uses the t-test and ANOVA. The results showed that: First, there was an influence of the audiovisual media-based CTL method on news text writing skills. Second, there was an influence of the audiovisual media-based CTL method on the news text writing skills of students who had high learning motivation. Third, the CTL method based on audiovisual media influences the news text writing skills of students with low learning motivation. Fourth, there is no interaction between the CTL method based on audiovisual media and learning motivation. The research concludes that the CTL learning method based on audiovisual media affects the skills of writing news texts for class VIII students of SMPN 1 Padang.
