PROSOCIAL BEHAVIOR AND SELF-ESTEEM IN ADOLESCENCE
Abstract
The present research proposes to carry out an analysis through an in-depth bibliographic review, regarding the existing relationships between prosocial behavior and self-esteem, taking into account that both variables are influential in the period of adolescence. Adolescents build identity based on multiple factors, including social relationships and the search for belonging, which can sometimes lead to certain risk behaviors. At the same time, self-esteem is one of the main sources of motivation for adolescents. Young people with low or poorly worked self-esteem are prone to presenting behaviors that are not productive in any social sphere. From the research carried out, it is concluded that there is a positive reason in their interaction, that is, that as prosocial behaviors are carried out, the self-esteem of those who perform them increases. For this reason, the need to promote the development of adaptive behaviors in adolescents that increases their self-esteem and healthy relationship with the environment is pointed out.
