In this article, I approach the technical musical processes of adaptation to irregular meters of the Brazilian genres ijexá, maracatu and samba as starting points for a compositional process; I also highlight the use of the metric modulation resource in the list of rhythmic mechanisms involved in the structuring of the musical material generated. Regarding the aesthetic-musical aspects, I choose to categorize the artistic product of this work as “jazz oriented’ Brazilian instrumental music”, since its construction process took place through the application of technical-aesthetic-musical procedures and elements observed in the bibliography and discography of both Brazilian popular music and jazz. Finally, with this text I seek to point out that, starting from the artistic background usual to those who dedicate themselves to musical creation in the context approached, the adaptation of Brazilian genres to non-isochronous rhythmic contexts is applicable as a propelling resource for the emergence of combinatorial ignitions in the “aristoxenic” process of musical composition.
