Zayas organizes a double and specular series of novels inserted in an atmosphere of a charming evening party, together with a love affair. Frame story and each story within that frame present different situations and stories about the love theme. Models of personal relationships can be interpreted in terms of desire, or rather, desires, as cupiditas or libido comes in different manifestations or responds to different impulses, that are not conflicting in themselves: erotic attraction, ambition, honor, authority ... The stories and the author’s writing process itself move between the tensions of a social order that begins to crack and the remains of a philography which has floundered in history, and thus the desire is shown as a manifestation of the conflict. The double circumstance of womanhood and a literary field without the balance between status and professionalism, allows us analyze the parallel set of desires and impulses counteracted in the level of enunciation, that of a female writing in conflictive search of an authorial acceptance.
