Long-term work placements can be an important component of employee and company development. By engaging in international mobility, it becomes possible to acquire the skills and competencies of the future, which are becoming particularly important in a global world. Although the positive aspect of workers’ international travel is well-known, the low scale of mobility still persists, according to European reports. In the presented article, the authors analyzed the level of foreign mobility in selected European countries and then presented the results of research carried out under the project MOB4APP – Strengthening VET professionals for promoting cross-border mobility in apprenticeships. In the analysis made, in addition to the benefits associated with the participation of an employee in a long-term apprenticeship, there was also a description of the barriers, among which dominate those of an organizational and managerial nature. The aim is to describe the factors that determine the low scale of occupational mobility and show the role of VET trainers, in bridging the obstacles that arise.
