A REVIEW OF COMPILING OF ETHICAL GUIDELINES FOR GENETIC RESEARCH IN IRAN

Background: In recent years, new medical progresses and using modern medical technologies for diagnosis and treatment of diseases have emerged many ethical issues. One of these medical progresses is in the field of genetic researches. Genetic information as the result of genetic researches is often considered “special” because of its close association with individual identity and its potential risk of stigmatization or discriscrimination by employers or ensures. On The other hand, genetic researches and genetic information may arise many ethical dilemmas for researchers and participants, there fore some International and National ethical guidelines for genetic researches have been compiled in the world. But because of the differences of dilemmas in each society as the consequence of the various cultures, situations and opportunities, we tried to compile a national ethical code for genetic researches in our country. Methods and Materials: Given the importance of the subject, we gathered ethical guidelines of genetic research by searching in pubmed, Ovid, Google, etc … for some keywords as genetic research, ethical guidelines, ethics, etc. Then we compiled the guidelines by using genetic researchers and religious and law professions recommendations. Discussion and result: Employment of these ethical guidelines in genetic researches by researches would decrease the ethical dilemmas in this issue and would protect the human dignity and human rights of research subjects.
