Abstract
In the year 1766, the governor of Pernambuco, Luiz Diogo Lobo da Silva, has offered a gift to the State Secretary of the Navy and Overseas Affairs, Francisco Xavier de Mendonça Furtado satisfaction a topographic spatial representations of the new towns created in the province of Pernambuco and its attached during his administration. The production goals of this letter represent the colonial space were transformed by the royal taxes, through a subjective landscape, to demonstrate the pride of the Portuguese Empire and the marvelous deeds of his subjects. Thus, from a cut made in this topographic map – the Captaincy of Rio Grande do Norte – time to analyze the production of this map, the visual representation of the new villages founded on the relationship between its creators and Portuguese colonization process.
