A new form of small-leaved maple (Acer mono Maxim.) in the Botanical Garden of Peter the Great
Abstract
A new form of small-leaved maple for science - Acer mono Maxim. f. atropurpureum Byalt et Firsov forma nova, cultivated in the Botanical Garden of Peter the Great Botanical Institute named after V. L. Komarova RAS in St. Petersburg are described. Brief information on the history of the introduction of A. mono Maxim, the origin of the planting material of this maple in the park of the BIN RAS is provided. The main differences between the new form and related taxa (including Latin diagnosis) are given, type specimens and the place of their storage are indicated. The article is illustrated with color photographs of living plants in the BIN RAS park and herbarium specimen. The form of small-leaved maple is very decorative in autumn and is of interest for wider introduction into urban landscaping.
