The history of popular music has a marked Anglo-Saxon imprint. Styles, genres, artists and scenes from different periods refer all over the world to hegemonic models developed in the United States or the United Kingdom in the English language, thus, establishing a canon that has naturalized topics both in the historiography of this repertoire and in the discourses of non-Anglophone artists, which refer to these models as a strategy of self-legitimization. The aim of this article is to analyze the development of rock in Spanish as another space for dialogue and musical exchange between Spain and Latin America since the 1950s, but also as a field of discussion on the definition of this repertoire, considering both the role of language and the relevance of musical traditions, parameters and sound topics that participate in the process of rock’s glocalization. We pay special attention to the influence of Latin American rock in the development of the Spanish rock scene in the second half of the 1970s, when rock urbano and movida madrileña were at their early stages, since these scenes have been heavily studied extolling the Anglo-Saxon references, especially British, and avoiding Latin American influence.
