The Accompaniment of Psychology and Theology: A Response to Jessica Coblentz
Abstract
This paper is a response to Jessica Coblentz. The response centers on three stories from psychology that touch on some of the main themes that Coblentz raises in her paper. A first will be a story of psychology’s approach to bias. A second will consider psychologists’ understanding of the good life, for without a clear understanding of the good life, suffering is likely to be misunderstood. A third will be the story of a particular school of thought within psychology, social cognitive theory, which might help address the importance of, and suggests some methods for, listening to each individual’s view from within.
