ADAPTATION AUX CHANGEMENTS CLIMATIQUES PAR UNE AQUACULTURE RURALE : POTENTIEL ET CAPACITE DE CHARGE DU LAC DE BARRAGE HASSAN 1er (MAROC).
Abstract
The aim of this study was to estimate the carrying capacity of Hassan 1er Dam Lake, Morocco, where cage farms for the intensive culture of Tilapia Nilotica will be located. For this purpose Dillon and Rigler phosphorus budget model was applied in a series of steps. Results related with the carrying capacity of this reservoir make it possible to determine production levels that will not damage water quality or create a risk of eutrophication. The carrying capacity, taking as a basis the total area of the lake (6.7 ha) and the acceptable (maximum) total phosphorus concentration of 65 mg m-3, was estimated at 191 tons.y-1 that could be produced through intensive cage aquaculture. This estimated value was about 4 times higher than the present production level of the lake. This study has shown that it possible to carry out intensive fish culture in floating cages in others dam lakes in arid and semi-arid zones by using the phosphorus budget model recommended in this study.
