The intensity distribution of the step phase shaped femtosecond laser pulse by ultra-fast pulse shaping technique is studied. The results show that two sub-pulses with variable intensity can be developed from a Gaussian laser pulse by adjusting the step position and the modulation depth. The central time and the pulse width of the sub-pulses change with the modulation parameters as well. In addition, the results show that the effective adjustable range of the step position is closely related to the full width at half maximum of the transform-limited laser pulse.
