Book studies reseaching as the base for expertise of book memorials
Abstract
The purpose of the article is to meet the eyes of experts to the importance of the full and deep bibliological description of book memorial - the edition in general, and each particular copy. The methodology comprises the whole of principles of general scientific methods (historical, comparative, analytical), as well as the application of special methods of research, such as historical and bibliological, bibliographical, art study, etc. Science novelty. The article presents the issues of book memorials bibliological studies, which are the elements of their appraisal conduction in the library. Such a problem was not stated in publications. Conclusion. The expertise of book memorials execution is the specific direction of work with cultural funds of grand libraries. Such a problem statement is connected with the understanding of the urgent necessity of unification in the perception of book memorial expertise essence. The expertise deals with certifying the book’s authenticity, the correctness of its bibliographical description, with appraising the historic and cultural value, rareness, physical condition, monetary value. The article substantiates the importance of book memorials expertise, presents the historiographic observation of studies, related to this topic, including the studies of VNLU Institute of Bibliology staff. The concept of "book memorial bibliological research" is described; the peculiarities of edition characteristics in general, as well as its particular copy, are outlined; main criteria of book memorial appraisal, with relevant examples, are named; the approximate sequence of information in the bibliological annotation to book memorial expertise is proposed; the necessity of book physical condition characteristics is underlined; the importance and necessity of preliminary bibliological researches as an essential part of book expertise is proved. The material of the article may be applied in bibliological researches of book memorials retrospective collections.
