The development of mining in Cuba has been differently expressed in different historical stages. None is more important than the other is, but two stand out both for the changes occurred in the country, and for the international historical period in which they emerge and reflect in different ways the insertion of Cuban minerals in Capitalism and the world economy. In the authors' opinion, changes that forcefully modify the Cuban history and society clearly expressed in copper and nickel exploitation, transforming entire regions and towns into appendices of the big international industry with consequent results for society.
