This article presents the results of a long-term collaborative research involving researchers from the Primate Research Institute (Kyoto-University) and Aix-Marseille University. Our research has demonstrated that the capacity to group local visual elements into a global percept has evolved with the primate phylum: baboons process in priority the local elements of hierarchical stimuli, while humans process their global shape in priority. Chimpanzees show intermediary results.
