Questões de língua, identidade e poder: hibridismos em Timor Leste Language, identity and power issues: hybridism in East Timor

Abstract

Objetiva-se discutir a relação complexa existente entre as noções de língua, discurso, identidade e poder a partir da situação linguística, social, política e histórica do Timor Leste. As noções de língua, discurso e identidade são tematizadas a partir da concepção de hibridismo, em que as misturas e variações colocam em tela uma concepção heterogênea, plural e conflituosa de língua e de sujeitos. A noção de poder se inscreve como constitutiva dos processos de hibridização linguístico-discursivos e das relações dialógicas estabelecidas entre as línguas, os discursos e as identidades. O aporte teórico adotado apoia-se nos trabalhos de Bakhtin e seu Círculo.In this article, we aim to discuss the complex relation that exists between the notions of language, discourse, identity and power, considering the historical, political, social and linguistic situation in East Timor. For doing so, we explore the notions of language, discourse and identity from a perspective of hybridism that considers mixtures and variation as constitutive of a heterogeneous, plural e conflictive conception of language and subjects. The notion of power is seen as intrinsically related to the discursive and linguistic processes and to the dialogical relations that exist between languages, discourses and identities. The discussion presented here is based on Bakhtin's (and his Circle's) ideas.
